Valve Exercising Planned Overnight for Six Hours 2018

Residents and businesses in an area including south Water Street, west Las Cruces Avenue, and west May Avenue, may experience low water pressure, no water, or discolored water for six hours, from 9 p.m. today, Feb. 7, to 3 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 8.

The City of Las Cruces Water Section will be exercising valves in that area. The work is related to the Church Water Conversion project, and is being done in preparation of water line connections being completed by Morrow Construction.

Valve exercising is the closing and opening of valves within the system to ensure they are working properly in the event a water outage is required due to breakage, system maintenance, or system upgrade.

No residents or businesses are anticipated to lose water service. However, residents and businesses in the affected may notice discolored water due to iron and manganese deposits. Although the water is safe to drink, City officials recommend waiting for the water to clear before washing laundry.

The discoloration should disappear within 24 hours. If it does not, outside or cold-water faucets should be flushed for five minutes. If the discoloration remains, call the City, at 575/526-0500 for assistance. The TTY number, for people who are hearing impaired, is 575/541-2182.
